Q. Which video file formats and file names can be used in NaviModel?
A. NaviModel reads the start time and camera name of each video from its file name. Name your videos according to one of the conventions below so they line up correctly with the track.
Supported file types
.mp4, .mpg / .mpeg, .avi, .mov, .asf, .wmv, .m4v (upper or lower case)
Helmsman AVI recordings: AVI files recorded by newer Helmsman versions are supported from NaviModel build 13770 (14 September 2026) and later. In older builds these videos show a duration of 00:00:00 and cannot be played.
Date/time codes
yyyy – year, MM – month, dd – day, HH – hour (24 h), mm – minute, ss – second, fff – milliseconds

For Digital Edge, the prefix can be any number of words separated by underscores, e.g. dive description_video group_2019-10-24_111241_Ch2_00.mp4.
Notes
- Fugro DVII: milliseconds in the time stamp are ignored; time is read to the second.
- EIVA HMD: the channel ID (e.g.
CH0) is not part of the camera name; only the text after the space is used. - Digital Edge: the channel must be written as
Chfollowed by a number (e.g.Ch1,Ch12).CHorchis not recognised. - FLIR: the date is written month-day-year. The last 4-digit group is read as milliseconds and must be between
0000and0999.
What if my file name does not match?
The video is still loaded, but:
- the start time is taken from the file's last-modified date/time, which may not be when the recording started (e.g. if the file was copied or re-encoded), and
- the camera name is the full file name.
For accurate timing, rename the files to one of the conventions above.
Track requirements
The track does not need to follow the same naming (e.g. 20071009235734100@C-STBD.csv), but the track must cover the same time span as the videos.
