To get started with the EIVA software:
- Download the software package from the EIVA download site https://download.eiva.com/
- Install it on your computer
- The installer will create a desktop shortcut
There are three ways to activate the software:
- By using a 9-digit licence activation key
- By using a soft licence (softdongle.txt). The ancestor of the 9-digit licence key which is hardly used anymore.
- By inserting the USB-like dongle (WibuKey) that you get when purchasing a permanent licence.
By using a 9-digit licence activation key:
When you click on the desktop icon it opens the Licence Activator window asking for the 9-digit licence activation key (also called soft licence).
- Enter the 9-digit licence key and select the software package you want to activate on the computer
Once activated on a computer, the licence cannot be moved to another computer. If the user name is changed or the computer is reformatted the licence key will no longer be valid. Licence keys are time-limited.

By using a soft licence (softdongle.txt):
The ancestor of the 9-digit licence key which is hardly used anymore. Only used for old software packages like NaviPac 3.10.
Load a soft licence into the C:\EIVA folder or next to the applications EXE file.
The soft licence is computer-specific and can only be used on the computer it was created for. If the user is changed or the computer is reformatted the soft licence will no longer be valid.
Soft licences are time-limited and are most often used for testing or in the case of malfunctioning dongles.
By inserting the USB-like dongle (WibuKey):
Insert a EIVA dongle into the computer's USB port. The dongle can be used by any computer. A physical dongle is 'everlasting' for the software that was released when it was purchased. A dongle is linked to an SMS agreement which is renewed every year. If the SMS is not renewed, the dongle will act as if un-supported. This means that it will work with older software versions, but not with versions newer than when the SMS agreement was terminated.
Dongle specific terminology:
Serial number: Can be found in the WibuKey software eg 12-12339948:
Asset number: Previously it was a silver sticker on the dongle, but is now a metal dongle tag with the asset number on it, eg 01.43.313.
